What Is A Heat Pump?
A heat pump is an electrical device which uses the air outside a home to create heat inside. It works just the same as a boiler but has a much lower impact on the environment. In a well insulated home, a heat pump can be more economical and energy efficient than standard home heating systems.
But the air outside is cold? That’s not a problem. A heat pump can heat a home even on the coldest of winter days – when temperatures are as low as -18 degrees Celsius.
The days of turning your boiler on and off are also over. You can regulate your heat pump to maintain a preferred comfort setting such as 20 degrees. The heat pump will turn on and off as needed to maintain that temperature. This also allows you to control your annual costs of running. Generally, a heat pump can cost as little as €3 to run a day. Payback then can be expected between 5 – 7 years.
How Much Is It?
Heat Pumps are set to soar in popularity in Ireland as they play key role in the Governments Climate Action Plan
. They hope to have 600,000 installed by 2030 – 400,000 of which are to be retrofitted in existing homes. In order to assist with this aim, the SEAI are offering a grant of €6500 and an additional €200 for a technical assessment.
Without conducting a technical assessment it is impossible to give an exact quote, however to give you a ballpark figure it would be anywhere between €10,000 and €15,000. This is before the application of the grant of €6500.
