This case study was carried out on an installation by NRG Panel and is great example of solar panels Kerry
Suzan got in contact with us back in May 2020 as she wanted to see are solar panels worth it for her. She had a €120 bimonthly bill and wanted to reduce that even further. She had research ways to reduce her bills and decided that solar panels where the solution to her problems.
Suzan is living in a beautiful bungalow and there are just two adults in the home. The roof was slated and was south facing which was the ideal orientation for solar panels. As her BER rating was a B1 prior to the install and the panels brought her up to an A3 making her home almost as well rated as a new build. Suzan qualified for the SEAI grant incentive of €1,800 for panel only installation. This grant can increase up to €3,000 if you add a battery system to your installation.
UPDATE 2022: Exciting news as the Solar PV grants have just changed for 2022. They have scrapped the BER requirement and the 2011 year of construction requirement.
New solar grant eligibility: Home must be built and occupied prior to 2021 & and you must also never have been in receipt of a PV grant at this address in the past.
New solar grant amount: €900 per kWp up to 2kWp and €300 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp. – No grant aid available for battery
After a consultation, our energy expert designed a bespoke system for Suzan. They decided that the best option based on the monthly electricity usage, lifestyle, roof space and orientation would be a 10 panel system on the south facing roof with the inverter installed in attic. As Suzan has an air to water heat pump so there was no need to add on an Eddi diverter.
It is worth noting that the solar PV works well with an air to water heat pump as the electricity generated can offset a lot of the cost associated with running the heat pump.
The system was installed in December 2020 just in time for Christmas. Our aim was to save this customer on up to 50% on her bills, all the while reducing her carbon footprint and increasing her BER rating.
We caught up with Suzan since the solar panel installation she said she was extremely happy with the professional service and the products provided.
She said that the complete process from sales call, engineer visit, BER assessment, installation and after service was fantastic and having the grant paperwork done for her was a huge burden off her shoulders. She also noted that the solar generation app was a great tool to measure what they were generating and consuming throughout the day.
