Freda got in contact with us back in September 2020 as she wanted to see are solar panels worth it for her, Her friend had recommended NRG Panel as they had previously been installed by ourselves. She was sick of her electricity bills and had researched ways to reduce them, she decided that solar panels where the best solution to her problems.
Freda is living in 5 bed detached house, The roof was slated and was south facing which was the ideal orientation for solar panels. As her BER rating was a C1 prior to the install Freda qualified for the SEAI grant incentive of €1,800 for panel only installation. This grant can increase up to €3,000 if you add a battery system to your installation.
UPDATE 2022: Exciting news as the Solar PV grants have just changed for 2022. They have scrapped the BER requirement and the 2011 year of construction requirement.
New solar grant eligibility: Home must be built and occupied prior to 2021 & and you must also never have been in receipt of a PV grant at this address in the past.
New solar grant amount: €900 per kWp up to 2kWp and €300 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp. – No grant aid available for battery
After a consultation, our energy expert designed a bespoke system for Freda. They decided that the best option based on the monthly electricity usage, lifestyle, roof space and orientation would be a 12 panel system on the south facing roof with the inverter installed in attic. As Freda had solar thermal installed so there was no need to add an Eddi diverter, an Eddi diverter is used to divert surplus energy produced to heat your water reducing your dependence on oil/gas. Freda will however benefit from the excess production once the micro generation scheme is introduced later this year.
The system was installed in November 2020 in less than a day. Our aim was to save this customer on up to 50% on her bills all the while reducing her carbon footprint and increasing her BER rating.
We caught up with Freda since the solar panel installation. She was extremely happy with the products and service provided, her BER increased to a B2. She said that she found NRG Panel to be very efficient in all aspects of the process. From the initial contact, to the house visit, all the way through to the installation, the NRG team were extremely professional.
She said that she found our work to be neat and tidy and felt the panels themselves looked great on the roof. She mentioned that the fitters also went above and beyond in showing her how to use and read the information from the Solar App.
Freda said that they generally glance at the app every few days to see the amount of electricity generated, it becomes very addictive trust us.
Freda has already noticed a drop in their electricity bills and that was over the winter months. She said that she is looking forward to similar or indeed larger savings over the coming summer months!
