The following case study was conducted by NRG Panel in 2021. This case study contains imagery and details of a genuine solar panel installation carried out by our team.

This case study was carried out on an installation by NRG Panel and is great example of solar panels Sligo
Mark got in contact with us back in September 2020 as he wanted to see are solar panels worth it for him, he had done loads of research into it and had got onto other companies however, once he had a consultation with NRG Panel he knew we were the right option. His electricity bills where huge coming in at €1,200 every two months as he has a cabin at the back of the house and it runs on electric – radiators and showers.
Mark is living in a beautiful, detached bungalow, The roof was slate and was south facing which was the ideal orientation for solar panels. As Marks BER rating was a C1 after the install, he qualified for the SEAI grant, Mark qualified for an €1,800 rebate on his installation for panels only – it is worth noting that his could received up to €3,000 for solar panels and battery installations.
UPDATE 2022: Exciting news as the Solar PV grants have just changed for 2022. They have scrapped the BER requirement and the 2011 year of construction requirement.
New solar grant eligibility: Home must be built and occupied prior to 2021 & and you must also never have been in receipt of a PV grant at this address in the past.
New solar grant amount: €900 per kWp up to 2kWp and €300 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp. – No grant aid available for battery
After a consultation, our energy expert designed a bespoke system for Mark. They decided that the best option based on the monthly electricity usage, lifestyle, roof space and orientation would be an 12 panel system facing south on the flat roof with the inverter installed in attic. Mark was using oil to heat his water and he wanted to reduce his dependency on fossil fuels so we added on an Eddi diverter and this was installed in the hot press, this was not a huge factor in the decision making process for Mark as he rarely used the immersion but was an added bonus.
The system was installed in November 2020 in just one day. Our aim was to save this customer up to 50% on his bills and to also provide him with some hot water, all the while reducing his carbon footprint and increasing his BER rating.
We caught up with Mark since the solar panel installation and he had this to say:
I’m completely obsessed with checking the app to see how much power we are generating during the day! Getting the install done in December meant we started right at the lower end of the scale and now everyday as we approach the end of Apr we are seeing more and more daylight and therefore more power being generated. We love it when we ‘break a new solar record’ for our system. The kids are sick of listening to us celebrating all the time and updating social media with graphs and stuff.
In the whole of December we generated 42 units and now in April we have generated 340 units and it’s only the 22nd. That’s an average of 17 units a day. The average in January was 1.9 and February 6.7. Even on a cloudy day it generates around 7 units. Bring on the longer days and even more sunshine.
I’m so happy we invested in solar and with NRG. We can’t wait to see what it will generate in the Summer. What will it get to? Our max so far is 24.7. So will it get to 30, 35 or maybe even 40?! It is making a significant impact on our energy bills as advertised so we are absolutely delighted. If you are thinking about solar then there is no better installers than NRG..
Solar PV is worth the investment and NRG Panel are the leading installer but don’t take our word – Check out this wicked review by Mark after the installation.
“We are so delighted with our solar array. 4.4kw on our flat roof, no battery. We had our first interaction with Killian back in mid-October 2020 on a zoom call. He was on time; gave me clear details and we had a good conversation. I was delighted to not get a big sales pitch as I had with other companies I had contacted. We had the survey done at the end of Oct and installation completed in December. We had explored the pros and cons of a ground mounted system versus a roof mounted, and whether a battery would be helpful…team on the day arrived by 8am and were all done by 2.30pm. A great team knew exactly what they were doing and communicated with us throughout the day…The grant had been applied for by NRG and it was approved and came through at the end of Jan. Very smooth. The BER rating was completed a week after installation, and we got our new rating a month later in Jan. We made the best decision to get solar and to get it with NRG, absolutely delighted and could not be happier’’
