The following case study was conducted by NRG Panel in 2021. This case study contains imagery and details of a genuine solar panel installation carried out by our team.

Alan got in contact with us back in November 2019 as he wanted to see are solar panels worth it for him, he was installed by NRG Panel in January 2020 but moved house to Co. Waterford in 2021. He was so delighted with the system the first time around he had no hesitation as to who he would go with.

With the first system he searched far and wide for quotes and information and he ultimately settled on NRG Panel because it was the best system that he had researched with great warranties and, prices that were better than a lot of others, the fact that NRG Panel looked after all the grant paperwork was a massive bonus and gave him great peace of mind. He was so delighted with how the system performed and with the service he got from NRG Panel, that he got in contact again in March 2021 to install in his new house.

Alan is living in a beautiful 4 bed detached bungalow. His roof is slated and 26 panels were split south east and south west south facing which is a good orientation for solar panels. Prior to having solar panels installed in his home his BER rating was an B1. This meant that Alan qualified for the SEAI grant incentive of €3,000 for panel and battery installation.

UPDATE 2022: Exciting news as the Solar PV grants have just changed for 2022. They have scrapped the BER requirement and the 2011 year of construction requirement.

New solar grant eligibility: Home must be built and occupied prior to 2021 & and you must also never have been in receipt of a PV grant at this address in the past.

New solar grant amount: €900 per kWp up to 2kWp and €300 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp. – No grant aid available for battery 

After our consultation, our energy expert designed a bespoke system for Alan. They decided that the best option based on the monthly electricity usage, lifestyle, roof space and orientation would be a 26 panel system on the back south facing roof and the inverter and battery was installed in attic.  Alan opted for an air to water heat pump so there was no need for an eddi diverter on this install. He also has an electric car, so we installed a Zappi car charger.

The installation team arrived in March 2021 and were finished up in 2 days. Our aim was to save this customer up to 50% on his energy bills and to also provide him with 100% of his heating and hot water needs, all the while reducing his carbon footprint and increasing his BER rating.

We caught up with Alan since the solar panel install and he was more than happy to share his experience, in fact he told us that he has been telling everyone who would listen about it.

I compared my experience with some other people I’ve met who also had solar panels installed and it is fair to say our experience was better than most others who used different companies. When we bought our new house we felt that we didn’t need to go through the whole process of getting quotes again, such was our satisfaction with NRG Panel. Our second time round was just as positive, and the team went above and beyond to help us as we also sought to add an air to water heat pump.

The solar panels were installed in a day and a couple hours the next morning, the air to water system and 9 zone smart thermostats took a day and a half. When the guys were finished the house was just as it was before they arrived. They made full sure that everything was working perfectly and explained how everything worked and gave us useful reading material so we wouldn’t have to remember everything on our own.

We’ve tried to future proof our home as much as possible and done away with as many solid fuel appliances as we could and are now relying solely on electricity for every working part of our home, this is why we added 26 panels. I’m able to drive to work with free energy, our water is always hot, our home is always warm, and our bills are extremely low. We’re even giving plenty back to the grid and when the micro generation tariff arrives later this year we will benefit from that too.

It’s great that you don’t have to be technologically minded to be able to use the system. It knows what it needs to do and works away in the background. However, for someone like me who loves tech and gadgets there’s a load of information that I can look over and monitor that shows me exactly how it’s performing.
