After a consultation, our energy expert designed a bespoke system for Nathan. They decided that the best option based on the monthly electricity usage, lifestyle, roof space and orientation would be a 12 panel system on the south west facing roof with the inverter installed in attic. Nathan was using oil to heat his water so we installed an Eddi diverter to divert surplus energy produced to heat his water reducing his dependence on oil.
The system was installed on sunny July morning in less than a day. Our aim was to save this customer on up to 50% on his bills all the while reducing his carbon footprint and increasing his BER rating.
We caught up with Nathan since the solar panel installation and here is what he had to say:
The process was great very professional from start to finish, not pushy, If, anything we pushed the consultant to give us the price and sign the form as we had already decided from the straight forward, up front consultant that we had made the right choice of installer, following advice we up graded to a 200ltr water tank and have hot water every day between 30 and 70 degrees.
I find in the summer we have a full piping hot tank by 2pm so I feed the water into the kids pool to help the solar heater there and raise the temperature of the pool. We also find ourselves looking at the forecast and when we see a mostly sunny day ahead, we will do the laundry and run the tumble dryer for free that day. We keep an eye on the Eddi for any import dips, but we find even with the tumble dryer on and the hot water heating we are still exporting power, so our next port of call is a battery.
We are so glad we future proofed our home. We have seen cuts of 40/45% in heating oil and 47% over all saving on our electric for the year. A tip for anyone thinking battery now, we now know that at night we use 300watts per hour and have already worked out the for 8months of the year we are granted to generate 2.5kw extra to our needs per day, so getting a battery next for us will mean from 11pm to 6am we would be off grid totally.
